Definition of Sexual Confusion. (Part 2)

Now, how common is it? With thousands being taken to the gender clinics. How common is it? I quoted from that DSM, the diagnostic and scientific manual before, for the definition. Here is their idea. This is their scientific conclusion of the incidence of this in adults. They say that attendances of adults at gender clinics range from 0.005 to 0.014 percent of adult males who consider themselves females and 0.002 to 0.003 percent of women who identify as men.

So, this is the statement by the DSM, which is making it a very, very rare illness. On the other hand, the Safe Schools programme was proclaiming that four percent of children, that is one in twenty-five children were suffering from Gender Dysphoria. How did they come up with that figure? Well, they seem to, and I don’t know, I am not privy to what they’re thinking or planning, but it appears that they based this on a survey of adolescents in New Zealand in which 8,166 adolescents were asked a range of questions. They were asked, “Do you think you are transgender?” Then they had to explain that. “This means a girl who feel she should have been a boy or a boy who feels he should have been a girl. Do you feel that?” Now, just to put this in context, the actual diagnosis declared by the DSM is that there has to be a persistent and consistent and resistant diagnosis over a period of six months. In this, you were just asking these adolescents. Do you ever think you might have been a girl? 94.7 percent said, “No, I’ve never had that problem.” 1.2 percent said yes. 2.5 percent said they’re unsure. And 1.7 percent said, “Well, we don’t understand the question.”

So, how it appears to come up with the 4 percent, which the Safe Schools is saying, is that they added those yes and those unsure and came up with a magical figure, 4 percent, which has now been reproduced uncritically as if it is Biblical truth.

Now, how good are those questionnaires? Most people are very sceptical about questionnaires that you distribute to adolescents. For example, in that same one, that same survey deemed authoritative by some people in Australia, they asked them about self-harm. In the previous year have you ever self-harmed? 23.4 percent said, “No.” 45.5 percent said, “Yes.” But here’s the nub of the question. 23.7 percent reckoned they didn’t understand the question.

Can New Zealand adolescents be so ignorant of the English language that they don’t understand a question like this? Or does that mean they’re just flipping through this thing and ticking, and therefore, how valid is the question of whether you feel transgender or not. So, I am very sceptical of the four percent, even though it’s reproduced as an issue, and it is reproduced as an argument that four percent, one in twenty-five kids, in Australian schools are transgender and therefore, we have got to look after and preserve them from bullying, and we’ve got to make sure that there are special toilets and all this sort of stuff.

We’ll get on to some of the treatment that these children could lead to in a minute or so, but there is one big assuring conclusion from those statements. Why is that? Because other people have said that the rate of getting over this confusion is in fact very high. So, what are we talking about? They’re saying the one in twenty- five, four percent. But the official figures say, well, hang on a second that doesn’t last. The DSM itself says that the rate of persistence with confusion ranged from 2.2% to 30% in natal males and that 12% to 50% in natal females.

In other words, what they’re saying is, though they may have gender confusion, they are in fact, going to grow out of it. This is the big take home message. It’s not just the DSM, but in all the references that are written. And it’s not my references. All of the references are reassuring that the great majority will grow out of this through puberty, as long as you don’t mess them up.

Now, this is an even greater assurance. If it really is that there are 4 percent who are confused and if that drops to 0.002%, that is far greater curing rate than already established. The mathematics of going from 4% down to 0.002% means that 99% of these children, according to their own statistics, are going to grow out of this. In other words, re-orientate to their natal sex.

Kenneth Zucker was a leader of a gender dysphoria clinic in Toronto. There weren’t many children involved in that, but he was one of the proponents of this idea that the majority are going to get better. They’re going to reorient to the sex of their birth and their appropriate gender identity. Most of them. “Some of them,” he said. “A minority, however, will re-identify with their natal sex, but they will be homosexual.”

The majority will be reverting to natal sex and heterosexual identity. The minority will end up as natal sex but homosexual orientation. He said. “Surely life as a homosexual is less complicated and therefore to be preferred to the life of a transgendered child submitted to all the hormonal treatment and the surgery and a lifetime commitment to medical care that is involved.”

So, what have we talked about? We have looked at the incidence of this. We have looked at the reassurance of this and we’ve begun to look at this as a psychological problem. Therefore, it should not involve, should not lead to an intense, massive, intrusion into the mind and body that the medical pathway, that we’re going to talk about, involves.
