Freedom Of Information Response to Safe Schools Materials Request. DET FOI 2018-329

Dear Mr Sparrius

Thank you for your recent response.

We acknowledge your request to re-scope point 7 of your FOI request, modifying it to:

7 All the recommended teacher resources under the HPE curriculum, sexual health, bullying and sexuality education. This includes all suggested and inferred third party organisations including but not limited to, Minus18, Project Rockit, “Beyond That’s So Gay” – Daniel Witthaus, all Ansell  Sex-Ed. Kits in connection with La Trobe University.

With regard to the first part of this point of your request (‘All the recommended teacher resources under the HPE curriculum, sexual health, bullying and sexuality education’), please be advised that documents are publicly available.

The relevant key links relating to this part of your request are as follows: (PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FIRST LINK NO LONGER WORKS.)

In addition, the Department of Education and Training (the Department) recommends to some schools the “All Of Us” resource which is not available on FUSE or the Department’s website. It is available on this website under the “Safe Schools Programs” tab. Or > click here<

Please be advised that none of these resources are mandated. They are optional for schools to use, and teachers exercise their professional judgement in selecting and using resources which are appropriate to their school context and their student cohort.

With regard to the second part of point 7 of your request (‘all suggested and inferred third party organisations including but not limited to, Minus18, Project Rockit, “Beyond That’s So Gay” – Daniel Witthaus, all Ansell  Sex-Ed. Kits in connection with La Trobe University’), please be advised that you would need to contact these organisations directly for any resources relating to these organisations.

We also wish to advise you of the first six points of your request, being:

1  All materials relating to the ‘Safe Schools’ program that have been implemented by the Department of Education and Training for every year level within Primary Schools, whether expressly as part of the ‘Safe Schools’ program or within other areas of the curriculum.

2  All materials relating to the ‘Safe Schools’ program that have been implemented by the Department of Education and Training for every year level within Secondary Schools, whether expressly as part of the ‘Safe Schools’ program or within other areas of the curriculum.

3  All instructional material and directives relating to the ‘Safe Schools’ program that has been provided to teachers across both Primary Schools and Secondary Schools. This instructional material includes material both managed and created by the Department of Education and Training and/or third parties.

4  Any student workbooks that have been created, published, distributed or utilised in relation to the ‘Safe Schools’ program across both Primary and Secondary Schools.

5  Any internet URL Link or access codes which are provided to teachers and/or students to engage with material relating to the ‘Safe Schools’ program, whether managed by the Department of Education and Training or by third parties, across both Primary and Secondary Schools.

6 Any evidence, both qualitative and quantitative in nature, which is in the possession of the Department of Education and Training, which demonstrates any correlation (whether positive or negative) between the ‘Safe Schools’ program and student learning outcomes. This includes evidence obtained in relation to both Primary Schools and Secondary Schools.

The FOI Unit caused searches to be undertaken to identify documents with the relevant area of the Department. We found that no documents exist that meet the terms of each of these six points of your request.

As no documents exist for points 1 to 6, and as documents are publicly available for point 7, the processing of your FOI request is complete.

Kind regards,
